GoldWings are all light on the night

A DAZZLING array of Honda GoldWing motorbikes lit up Scarborough over the weekend.

Crowds of onlookers flocked to Foreshore Road to check out the display of bikes from all over the country including one ridden by Coronation Street star Peter Armitage, better known as Kevin Webster’s dad Bill in the long-running ITV1 soap.

The event was organised by Yorkshire GoldWings and has proved so popular with the public that it has become an annual gathering.

A spokesman said: “In the last three years the bikers have collected more than £13,000 for the Scarborough and Filey lifeboats and they expect once again to swell the lifeboat coffers.

“The riders chose our Yorkshire lifeboats as a worthy charity to support when lifeboat teams travelled inland to help rescue Yorkshire folk from the floods of 2007.”

Members of the Yorkshire Region of the GoldWing Owners Club of Great Britain dressed up as pirates to entertain visitors and collect for the lifeboat charities.

Scarborough’s mayor and consort, Cllr Hazel Lynskey and the Hon Alderman Sheila Kettlewell, attended the display on Saturday afternoon to judge the bikes and award prizes to the winning owners.

Later that evening Cllr Lynskey started the stunning light parade as it left Northstead Manor Drive car park.

The Scarborough Lifeboat Supporters Group were also out in force along with the Scarborough 2nd Girl Guides who helped with tombola stalls.
