Glazing company's multi-million investment

A SCARBOROUGH company which makes double glazing units has made substantial investments in highly automated equipment that bosses say will firmly place the company ahead of competitors.

AWJ Glass in Hopper Hill Road on the Scarborough Business Park has invested more than 2 million in new machinery which is designed to handle the production of larger sealed units for the commercial market.

The Eastfield firm has seen considerable growth in the last few years while moving the business to meet the escalating need to produce more environmentally friendly products.

Managers at AWJ Glass say their factory is now capable of manufacturing over 7,500 units a week on some of the most advanced machinery available.

Managing director Andy Whitelaw said: “The factory has been completely redeveloped to accommodate the new equipment and this has led to considerable interest from existing and new customers with a number of major projects in the pipeline for the year ahead.

“This latest investment in advanced technology is part of a major expansion phase which will help to increase productivity, improve efficiency and raise quality consistency.

“Output at AWJ Glass has improved dramatically since incorporating the new equipment on site, with efficiency and capacity having improved by over 50 per cent.”

The senior management team including directors Dave Rosher, Director and Ivan Copley, Sales Director, said the investment was of vital importance.

Mr Copley said: “We believe the high standard equipment will give this company long term benefits. AWJ Glass has established a reliable reputation and this installation will further raise our standards and presence throughout the UK.

“We know that we can attain consistently high standards for our customers with production methods that are faster and more efficient than ever before.”
