GIRL HOSTAGE: Eastfield siege moves into second day: VIDEO AND PICTURES
A SIX YEAR OLD girl has been held hostage at a house in Scarborough in a stand off with police for more than 24 hours.
As the siege moved into its second day armed police officers surrounded the home in Herdborough Road, Eastfield.
It is believed a man in his 30s, possibly armed, has barricaded himself and the girl, into a bedroom.
Emergency services were called to the address at 11.05pm on Monday following reports of a domestic disturbance.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Owing to a belief that there was a potential threat to life, the Firearms Support Unit was called to assist with the control of the incident.
"Police negotiators were also sent to the scene in a bid to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."
The road was cordoned off from Hawthorn Walk to Beech Walk, where crowds of residents stood behind police tape in the rain.
Paramedics were put on stand by as police negotiators tried to talk the man into giving himself up.
The man is believed to be in his 30s and from West Yorkshire.
Residents said they were shocked by the events and stood for hours waiting for signs of any developments.
Gail Mead, of Hawthorn Walk, said: "We were just going out shopping when we saw all the police and heard that someone was being held hostage."
