Funding boost for North Bay
MORE than 250 properties in Scarborough will be better protected from the devastating effects of flooding by new defence schemes to start construction in the next financial year, Defra and the Environment Agency have confirmed.
Scarborough Council has received £700,000 towards the North Bay Urgent Seawall Repair Programme.
It is estimated the funding will provide £25 benefits per every pound of investment.
MP Robert Goodwill welcomed the news, which was announced yesterday.
He said: “It is good news that the department, despite these difficult times, has found the money to carry out these important repairs in Scarborough.”

Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 11:36 AMRe 1. I agree we are being kept in the dark as usual. The fiasco over the OAT should have half the Town Hall falling on their swords starting from the top and the other half should be locked up for their own safety. To waste our money so spectacularly is nothing short of criminal but to keep us uninformed is adding insult to injury.

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 04:41 PMIt all sounds horribly as if we're going to have to pay £700,000 to stop those bloody awful, and eye wateringly expensive, time-share flats at the top of the North Bay from being swept away at the next spring tide. Didn't the tide wash over them when they were being built? In which case they have a very limited life before 'concrete cancer' gets them anyway.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 06:57 PMI don't see much wrong with the sea wall along the North Bay, certainly nowhere near 700k of damage. I bet the 700k is going towards buying SBC's new HQ or paying the wages of people who provide no service or benefit to the people of the Borough.
I read the news today, oh boy
Friday, February 10, 2012 at 06:35 PM1 Yes, exactly where are the 250 properties in the North Bay area that are threatened with flooding? And yes, many are wondering what is going on with the OAT, maybe the SEN have forgotten about it too?

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 03:26 PM250 properties ? Where ? The only ones I can think of are a couple of cafes, a shop, a pub and the "costa ugly" flats ! Anyway, any flooding down there and the residents can move into the OAT, as yet another week passes by and neither Apollo nor SBC have got the balls to tell us what is happening. Cowards !
