Firm celebrates staff gaining NVQ awards
FIVE workers at a Scarborough firm have gained new qualifications as part of the company's commitment to staff development.
Stationery firm Duraweld, which is based in Salter Road, Eastfield, has announced five members of staff have completed a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Plant Operations, under the moderation of Chris Wiley, of Forklift Training Services.
The qualification was funded by the government's Train to Gain skills initiative.
Chris Pratt, Cheryl Kilbride, Rob Sellers, Alex Boorman and Lee Buckham were assessed to determine whether they had the skills needed by an operations team within a factory setting.
Skills included literacy, numeracy and forklift training as well as aspects of health and safety practice.
Train to Gain is the national skills service which supports employers of all sizes and in all sectors, helping them improve the skills of employees as a route to improving business performance.
Chris Wiley said: "It is great to see companies like Duraweld continuing to train in the current climate and taking full advantage of Train to Gain funding."
Julie Bulmer, Dura- weld's HR manager, added: "We operate in a very competitive market place, and it is vital that we invest in equipping our team with the skills they need to run an efficient manufacturing operation. The funding we secured from Train to Gain helped us immensely."
