Double robbery - huge hunt on

POLICE are investigating two Scarborough robberies which were "almost certainly" carried out by the same group of men.

Two men were assaulted during the robberies which took place in the early hours yesterday morning.

Police are looking for three or four men, aged in their late teens or early 20s, whom they believe were involved with both attacks.

The first happened at around 12.45am when they approached a 21-year-old man who was on his bicycle at the corner of Burniston Road and North Cliff Avenue.

The men threatened the victim and took him along North Cliff Avenue intending to go into, what they were told, was the victim's address.

They were instead taken to the wrong house so they assaulted the man in a front garden and stole his wallet.

The suspects were wearing hoodies and scarfs around their faces.

The second robbery happened at 1am when a taxi was called to the Newlands shops in Newlands Park Crescent.

When it arrived three men wearing hoods approached the taxi and attacked the driver before forcing him to hand over his takings.

The suspects ran off behind the Charles William apartments towards the Gallows Close playing field.

DC Steve Johnson, of Scarborough CID, said: "The two robberies were almost certainly carried out by the same group of people due to the times, locations and descriptions that were given to the police.

"Extensive inquiries remain ongoing to trace the suspects. To assist the investigation, I am appealing for possible witnesses or anyone with information that could help identify the suspects to contact the police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is urged to call DC Johnson at Scarborough CID on 08456060247 or information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800555111.
