Digital Scarborough 2010 is a hit
The Digital Scarborough technology festival has been hailed as a terrific advertisement for the town after it reached its climax this weekend.
The four-day event, which is the fourth of its kind, featured free activities to enable local people to learn more about digital technology.
Visitors were given the opportunity to learn new skills, hear experts on
the latest digital technology, meet other enthusiasts and learn about internet safety.
Scarborough's Urban Renaissance manager Nick Taylor was full of praise for the festival. He said: "It shows we are an amazingly digitally connected town and just by talking to people it demonstrates the way
Scarborough is perceived by the creative sector.
"It is a remarkable position and I really don't think we realise how significant the place is in that respect and how many people make purposeful decisions to study and work here because of the quality of the town."
Digital Scarborough is the outcome of a collaboration between local enthusiasts, media professionals, staff from Yorkshire Coast College and the University of Hull Scarborough Campus who form the Digital Scarborough Action Group.
Mr Taylor said: "The music night on Friday at Westwood was absolutely
outstanding."
One of the few disappointments came when a talk by world renowned designer Vaughan Oliver due to place at Yorkshire Coast College's Westwood Campus on Friday as part of the festival had to be postponed
due to family illness.
He had been due to discuss his pioneering work which includes album covers for music artists including The Cocteau Twins and The Pixies.
Mr Taylor said: "Vaughan will be coming back in April."
