Dave clicks with judges to snap up Scarborough photo prize
A SCARBOROUGH photographer is celebrating after snapping up first prize in an Evening News website contest.
Dave McNally, of Woodlands Vale, is the first winner of our new monthly online photos contest after his picture, Dawn Regatta, was judged the best from hundreds of entries we received.
Mr McNally, who works as an engineer at Plaxton's, won a 30in x 20in canvas print of his stunning photograph after Evening News chief photographer Dave Kettlewell and Stuart Kille from the Photo Studio, in Aberdeen Walk, judged his work to be the most striking.
Mr McNally, 41, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have won, especially when you consider the standard and the number of entrants in the competition.
"I've been interested in photography for quite a number of years but really started to take it seriously around six years ago, so to win this is very pleasing.
"The picture was taken early on a Sunday morning from the East Pier during a yacht regatta and I was hoping to get a nice sunrise and silhouette of the boats against that.
"That didn't really materialise but we did get a cloud burst for a couple of minutes allowing me to get the shot, which I think was very striking."
The monthly competition continues in February with another 30in x 20in canvas print of the winning picture as the prize, again donated by Photo Studio.
