Date set for newt court case

FOUR directors of the company behind the £120 million Bay holiday village near Filey accused of killing great crested newts and damaging or destroying their habitats have had another case management date set.

Laurence Corrigan, 55, and Richard Wiesener, 67, of Cottingham, John Groves, 65, of Kirk Ella and Wayne Low, 35, of Leconfield, are each charged with three counts of intentionally killing a protected wild animal and three counts of recklessly endangering their shelter.

The same charges are faced by Essential Vivendi Ltd, Essential Vivendi Construction Ltd and Essential Vivendi Management Ltd, of Southgate in Hessle.

They relate to alleged incidents on or about October 1, 2006, at three ponds on the site of the former Filey Butlins holiday camp.

An interim case management hearing will be heard on March 13 and a trial scheduled to last three days has been set for April 14.
