Crews ready for North Sea Challenge - COMMENT ON THIS STORY

COMPETITORS taking part in this year's North Sea Yacht Race sponsored by Boyes stores have been flying the firm's flag.

Mr Scarborough, Dave Cooper, visited some of the people taking part in the race which starts on Friday at 7pm as they made final preparations for their 210-mile journey to Ijmuiden on the Dutch coast.

One of the entrants taking part in this year's event is the town's urban renaissance manager Nick Taylor, who is also vice commodore of Scarborough Yacht Club.

Mr Taylor said: "Every year yachts from up and down the North East coast take part in this premier sailing event and it would not be possible without the wonderful support we get from Boyes.

"Many of those taking part in the race act as ambassadors for the town, telling people they meet in Holland about what a fantastic place Scarborough is to live and work; and about some of the companies that do business in the town and beyond.

"Boyes is one of those firms and members of Scarborough Yacht Club are proud of their association with one of the town's longest established businesses.

"We're all looking forward to a competitive race this weekend and to spreading the word about Scarborough and Boyes when we get over to Holland. We also hope as many people as possible will come down to the harbour on Friday at 7pm to watch the start of the race."

The Boyes flag is flown by boats taking part in the race before and after the event.
