Could you join Taniya in Scarboro' line-up?
WE'RE offering local girls the chance of a lifetime! The Evening News has teamed up withMiss England organisers in the search for Miss Scarborough – who will then go on to challenge for the national title and a place in the Miss World finals.
One of the first entrants is Taniya Glendinning, of Scarborough. Could you join her in the line-up to represent Scarborough in this prestigious event?
If you feel you have what it takes, enter today. Simply use the form alongside and include a head and shoulders picture, and a full length pose. The picture quality is not important. Malton's Georgia Horsley, 20, as Miss York, won Miss England and went to China earlier this month to represent England in the Miss World contest.
We're looking for someone to follow in Georgia's footsteps next year. To qualify you must be aged 17 to 24 and live or study within a 20-mile radius of the town and comply with the rules of the Miss England competition.
Calendar TV presenter Carolyn Hodgson, who won Miss Scarborough 1986, thinks it's a "great idea". She said she probably wouldn't be where she is today without the boost Miss Scarborough gave her career. Ms Hodgson, 37, said: "It gave me so much confidence and I was only just 17. I spent most weekends opening fetes and hosting charity functions which really helped me to write speeches and deliver them. "I also took part in the Miss UK competition which gave me my first TV experience. I loved it and it probably helped me get to where I am now."
