Club steams into action for charity
SCARBOROUGH Railway Club steamed into action to help raise funds for a good cause.
The club’s social committee raised 200 for Marie Curie Cancer Care by raffling off two Thornton’s Easter eggs.
George Sylvester, social secretary, said: “We’ve been doing the raffle for as long as I can remember and I’ve been here over 20 years. Everyone is always happy to take part because they know what a good cause it is.
“We like to do lots of things to help charities – our big one is Children in Need in November.”
Cheryl Barrett, a community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We were absolutely delighted. Lots of people locally hep us by raffling off an egg each year, but the Railway Club managed to raffle two eggs, which is fantastic.
“This a great boost to our fundraising efforts because one hour of Marie Cure nursing care costs 20, so 200 is more than enough to pay for a whole shift.
“It’s extremely kind of the club and they always give us such a warm welcome.”
