Club for young at heart
A NEW youth club is to be launched in Scarborough – not for the town's teens but for the young at heart.
The idea is the brainchild of Jeff Moorhouse who decided there was no reason why the over 60s could not enjoy the same games as they did when they were youngsters.
The first meeting of the Over 60 Youth Club takes place at the Westborough Methodist Church on Tuesday September 27 between 10am and noon.
Mr Moorhouse, 67, who will be the leader of the club, said: "Quite a lot of people over 60 are lonely, more so than the youngsters.
"Kids like to chill out at a youth club and older people are no different.
"I think the idea will really catch on because it's not the usual over 60s club with talks and cups of tea, but something a bit different.
"I know there are people over the age of 60 who enjoy playing games and perhaps other people who would like to have a go.
"The premises can take quite a lot of people and I see no reason why people of a certain age can't play snooker or table tennis and have some fun."
Church steward Mr Moorhouse said the project had the backing of Age Concern in Scarborough.
The full facilities at Westborough Methodist Church will be open for use by older people who attend the youth club including a full-sized snooker table, table tennis tables, badminton court, indoor bowling mat and coffee bar.
