Climate group heading for camp
MEMBERS of the Scarborough Against Climate Change group are taking part in a national event.
Group members and their children will travel to a Climate Camp at Kings North Coal Fired Power Station in Kent from August 3 to 11 to learn more about environmental issues.
Members of the Scarborough group are making their way to Kent by train, using advance purchase tickets to make the journey cheaper.
Once at the camp, the participants are divided into loose “regional neighbourhoods” with a large community tent in which everyone meets to enjoy vegan meals.
All water for the showers is heated using solar heating – and all other electricity used on site comes from wind turbines.
Jane Gresham, group co-ordinator, said: “We are looking forward to going on this most important camp, where we should learn much more about how we can all help towards averting climatic catastrophe.
“And it is surprising just how quickly you adapt to using compost toilets!”
All those pictured, plus Kathy Clarke's other child, Rosie, age 12, are going to the Climate Camp.
