Church becomes tropical paradise

SCARBOROUGH'S Westborough Church was transformed in to a tropical island as a group of Guides held their latest fundraiser.

Westborough Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers took over Westborough Church Coffee Lounge and turned it into a Caribbean Cafe with lots of tropical treats.

The event features a cake stall, a cocktail fountain, a craft stall, and also a car wash as part of the fundraiser.

Scarborough mayor Bill Chatt attended – and not only tried the cocktails but got stuck in with the car wash.

In total the Caribbean Cafe raised 390, with 25 going to each Girl Guide unit that took part, and 290 going towards an island cafe in Anguilla for the Guide Branch Association to provide local girls with an education.

Amelia Scholey, one of the organisers of the event, said: “The Caribbean Cafe was a great success. Everyone who took part really enjoyed it and the food was enjoyed by all. We did not expect to raise anywhere near as much money as that. It was terrific.”
