Chris wins Boys' Brigade promotion after receiving top honour
A MEMBER of a Scarborough Boys' Brigade company has been promoted to sergeant after receiving a top award.
Chris Sedgwick, 17, received the Queen’s Badge during the Boys’ Brigade, 5th Scarborough Company’s annual display and presentation evening.
The award is the highest available in the Boys’ Brigade and Chris worked for two years in leadership within the company for it.
He volunteered at St Catherine’s Hospice, learnt to play the bass guitar and followed a fitness programme by attending a gym.
Chris had to complete a record of his work towards the badge which included a project on an international aid agency.
Mike Colbeck, company captain, said: “It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all and everyone at the company would like to thank those who attended for their support.
“There were about 120 people present at the event to see the lads demonstrate the things they get up to at The Boys’ Brigade each week.
“We also had an interesting edition of Family Fortunes provided by our seniors and of course the lads received the awards they have been working hard towards all year.”
Chris, who is training at Yorkshire Coast College to be an electrician, is due to attend the Guild Hall in London in July as one of 125 young men from across the country who are officially being presented with the award. The event is part of the Boys’ Brigade’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The company, which meets at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall on Thursday evenings, has places available in its Anchor Boys section aged five to eight.
