Charity event in memory of brave Ellie

A COFFEE morning held in memory of Scarborough teenager Ellie Othick-Bowmaker raised £413 towards a fund which has been set up in her name.

Ellie, who was just 14, died in February after battling a brain tumour since 2007.

Her mum, Heather, has now set up Ellie's Fund, which comes under the umbrella of national children's brain tumour charity Ali's Dream.

The coffee morning was held at Stoneacre Ford in Seamer Road and featured a tombola, face painting and stalls, with home-baked cakes made by Ellie's friends.

Mrs Othick said: "Everyone enjoyed it and the girls were really pleased to be helping out.

"This will be the first of many events for Ellie's fund. Lots of people have been coming forward with ideas and offering their support."

Cakes from the event were also taken down to Scarborough Police Station to be sold in aid of the fund.

Forthcoming events include a sponsored swim around the castle foot, a skydive and Ellie's birthday bike ride in September.

Scalby School pupil Ellie was involved in raising around 25,000 for charity in the last three years.

In December last year she raised 2,000 for Ali's Dream by releasing a charity CD.

On the CD Ellie performs a song called Butterfly Wings which was written for her by her uncle Glenn Coggin.

Mrs Othick set up Ellie's Fund in March and has already collected over 2,000 in donations.
