Chance to find Scarborough's own Billy Elliot
YOUNGSTERS in Scarbor-ough are being given the chance to dance their way to West End stardom through a new production of Billy Elliot.
The producers of Billy Elliot the Musical have launched the Billy Youth Theatre, an initiative which gives schools and youth groups around the country the chance to perform their own productions with a shortened script and simplified orchestrations.
Scarborough-based company Take One Productions has announced it will stage one of the 115 separate productions of the play being planned across Britain.
It is scheduled to run in spring and summer this year.
Some groups will then be offered the opportunity to perform at the Billy Youth Theatre West End Gala at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Billy's London home, in July.
Auditions are open to anybody aged between 10 and 19, and will be held on Sunday January 10 at Scarborough's Grand Hotel from 9.30am.
Director Matt Loades, who has already taken part in an all-day workshop at the Victoria Palace Theatre to prepare him to stage the production, said: "We want to see anyone who wants to be involved in this production.
"Whether you are a rugby player, footballer, singer or dancer come along and be part of this amazing show in Scarborough.
"We are not necessarily looking for established dancers or singers.
"All are welcome and who knows, we may even find our own Billy Elliot at the auditions."
