SCARBOROUGH Sixth Form College students got to "go nuts for doughnuts" thanks to a fundraising contest held in aid of the RNLI.

A huge crowd gathered to watch the plucky participants try to eat doughnuts while wearing boxing gloves – and the event proved a knockout success.

Student Kelly Shotton, who helped organise the event, said: "We had a lot of fun raising money for the RNLI with our doughnut eating competition.

"As a running total we have now raised 212 which includes our other classmates' fundraising. It was a terrific turnout and everyone was very enthusiastic and got involved.

"All the money we raise goes towards training a new lifeguard for Scarborough. We would like to thank Sainsbury's for providing the doughnuts for us and also our teacher Kristeen, who always helped us out when we needed her."
