Cement bag caused damage to 'copter
AN empty cement sack triggered a bizarre incident which left a Scarborough company's helicopter badly damaged, an investigation has revealed.
No-one was hurt in the drama which happened as the 1989-built Schweizer helicopter – G Wark – landed on a private landing strip in Selby on May 5.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch report said the helicopter had just touched down when the woven fabric bag “blew up” off the ground and into the rotor blade.
This resulted in the rotor blade flying out of track, causing extensive damage to the helicopter’s airframe and tail.
The name of the pilot, who is said to have had 350 hours of flying experience, has not been revealed but the helicopter was owned by AB Erection Ltd, of Main Street, Seamer.
