By-election after councillor’s resignation

A BY-ELECTION for the Hertford ward of Scarborough Council will be held on Thursday March 15.

The election comes following the resignation of Nick Harvey last month and two requests for this vacancy to be filled.

Nominations are now being invited to become a borough councillor for this ward and packs are available from Electoral Services, Town Hall, Scarborough, telephone (01723) 232309.

Completed nomination papers must be returned to the Returning Officer, Scarborough Borough Council, Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HG no later than noon on Friday February 17.

The deadline for anyone who is not already registered to vote is Wednesday February 29. Anyone wishing to apply for a new postal vote or change their existing postal vote must also do so by 5pm on Wednesday February 29.

Any new applications to vote by proxy must be received by March 7.

Such a shame, Nick Harvey was the one councillor you could actually trust, he worked Hard and claimed no allowances or expenses, maybe this is why SBC failed to communicate with him, he did not tow the line and join the gravy train, unlike his counterparts in the Herford Ward. Looks like the community will get another council Robot unless the community stands behind the candidates, Parish Council put some one up to go against the candidates as your always saying your there for the benefit of us hunmanby residents

Let's hope there are some quality candidates out there. The time it has taken for the by-election to be called suggests that none of the parties have anyone to put forward who they have great confidence in. We are all good at moaning, but few of us seem to have the capability or lifestyle to put themselves forward for political office...

Such a hard working Cllr. who claimed nothing in allowances and expenses should never have been forced out in this way. Still no explanation from SBC as to what went wrong with their communications with him - perhaps because he fought for the rights of the rural dwellers and was not one of Sly's sychophants !!
