Brewing up to raise cash for two charities
A FUNDRAISING coffee morning raised a refreshing £300 to be shared between two Scarborough charities.
The event was held at Genevieve Court in Melrose Place, which provides independent living for the over 60s.
The money raised will be split between Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale MIND and the Scarborough branch of the Alzheimer's Society.
Warden Maureen Linley, who organised the event, said: "It was a good day and everyone enjoyed it. We usually have one of these every year and it gets all the residents involved.
"Last year we supported the Samaritans and we've done a couple for St Catherine's."
Mrs Linley's grandchildren - Thomas, Nicole, Oliver and James - were on hand to help with the bookstall and also ran a competition to guess how many sweets were in a jar.
The coffee morning was attended by residents, family, friends and members of the public.
Around 40 people live at Genevieve Court, which is part of Scarborough Municipal Charities.
Mrs Linley, who has been the warden at the flats for nearly 30 years, is now looking forward to presenting a cheque for 150 to each of the chosen charities.
