Breaking News: Tesco wins Dean Road land - COMMENT ON THIS STORY
TESCO'S bid for the council-owned land off Dean Road has been accepted, the Evening News can reveal.
The supermarket giant, which already owns three stores in the town, beat off competition from Asda at a dramatic behind-closed-doors vote at a full council meeting yesterday.
An Evening News online poll, which attracted almost 5,500 votes in four days, showed that 79% of respondents backed Asda's bid.
