SCARBOROUGH’S bowling alley is enjoying life in the fast lane after hosting its first ever wedding.

The venue played host to bride and groom Paul and Lucy Percival who chose the seafront arcade for their wedding reception.

Not only did guests enjoy limitless lane time, they were treated to a hot buffet in the snack bar, and skittle-shaped bath bombs as wedding favours.

Staff at Olympia Leisure say they were bowled over by the request, having never had a wedding party booked in at the bowling alley before.

Marketing manager Julie Cammish said: “It all started quite a while ago when they approached us.

“We didn’t know whether they were being serious at first as we have never had a reception here before.

“It has been great though. The couple are really laid back, and it has been lovely to be able to do this for them. The staff have all really enjoyed it too as it has been something unusual for them.”

The newlyweds, who come from Brighton, said they fell in love with Scarborough when holidaying here a few years ago.

Mr Percival, 28, originally from Leeds, said: “We came here bowling when we were on holiday, and said at the time if we ever get married this would make a great location for a wedding reception.

“We just fell in love with the place.”

The blushing bride Mrs Percival, 27, added: “It has been really good fun. The whole day has been brilliant, and everyone has had so much fun. We love bowling so it was nice to have something so personal to us for our wedding.”

The couple, who were married at Scarborough Register Office, saw family and friends travel from far and wide for the wedding, with the furthest guest arriving from Germany.

As the snow arrived on Saturday afternoon bride and groom were delighted with the winter wonderland views over the South Bay.

So will Olympia Leisure be in the running as Scarborough’s next top wedding venue?

“We will certainly be putting it on the website now, so we’ll see what happens.” said Mrs Cammish.
