Blockbuster movie link to boost in visitors at Castle Howard

THE owners of a North Yorkshire stately home believe a blockbuster movie is responsible for a big visitor boost.

Castle Howard, near Malton, attracted more than 1,000 visitors each day during half term – double last year's attendance – with an overall October boost of 18 per cent.

Operations manager Hannah Jones said: "The numbers this October half term have been amazing.

"There's no doubt that the release of Brideshead Revisited, starring Castle Howard as Brideshead Castle, has encouraged people to visit. Our new Brideshead Restored exhibition has been very popular, letting people visit the sets of the film."

Sally Joynson, chief executive at Screen Yorkshire, added: "This is fantastic news and demonstrates the impact that film and television production can have on raising the profile of destinations such as Castle Howard."

The home is due to reopen on Saturday, November 29 for Christmas.
