Big leap for gym club's appeal

SCARBOROUGH Gymnastics Academy sprung into action with its first ever fundraising event.

The family barbecue held at Scalby School raised 850 towards new gymnastics equipment and saw the launch of the club’s new fundraising lottery, called The 200 Club.

Head coach Nikii Walker said: “It was a very enjoyable evening and a great opportunity for the gymnasts and their families to get together socially, whilst helping to raise much-needed funds towards new equipment for the club.

“The event could not have happened without the help and support of the fundraising committee and everyone who volunteered their time to run the various activities on the night.

“A big thank you goes out to everyone who attended and helped out and to the businesses who made generous donations.”

Su Richings, chair of the fundraising committee, said: “It was a really enjoyable evening. Rain didn’t stop play!

“We moved everything but the cooking indoors.”

Events included a nail bar which had people queueing, hair braiding, face painting, balloon modelling and stalls.

The club’s lottery administrator Caroline Pindar said: “On the night our new fundraising lottery was particularly popular but we still need lots more people to chip in and have a chance to win!

“Fifty people have signed up so far which is a very encouraging start.”

The academy, which currently meets at Scalby School, is hoping to raise cash for its own base.
