Backing for new council officer

SCARBOROUGH council chiefs have given their full backing to a newly-appointed senior officer who resigned from her previous job after being on sick leave for three months.

Pauline Elliott, who is the new head of regeneration and planning, found her private life under the media spotlight while working as deputy chief executive of Bassetlaw Council in Worksop, Notts.

Today, Scarborough Council chief executive Jim Dillon, said: "All appointments are made based on who is the best candidate for a particular job. A candidate's private life has no bearing on an appointment.

"The council received completely satisfactory references about Pauline Elliott and was fully aware of the media coverage about her before she was appointed to the position of head of regeneration and planning.

"Pauline's reasons for leaving her previous employment were unrelated to the issues covered by the media in Worksop."

He added: "I am delighted that Pauline has joined the council. She brings with her a wealth of expertise in her field, which will be a great asset to the council and the borough.

"I would like to take this opportunity to personally welcome her and wish her every success in her new role."

During her time with Bassetlaw Council, Ms Elliott was involved in a number of high profile projects involving Tesco, cinema plans and new leisure centres.
