Armed police swoop on house

ARMED police swooped on a property in Scarborough in the early hours of the morning.

Around 12 officers including some from the Armed Response Unit targeted a house in Trafalgar Square at around 6.30am on Saturday. The area was cordoned off.

One resident said: "There were also police dogs and they went in through the back door of the property. All the streets were blocked off and even the alley leading to the cricket ground was cordoned off.

Beth Monks, of Trafalgar Square, said she had heard people arguing before the police arrived. She said: "I heard a lot of noise at around 3.30am and then again at 5.30am but I didn't dare look out."

Mandy Whitwam, who works at Trafalgar Stores, said: "The police let us in to the shop at 7am but told us we could not have any customers in."

Resident Dave Stubbs, added: "A police van stopped me for 15 minutes and wouldn't let me up the road because of what was going on."
