An inter-generational love affair
FOUR generations of the same family which has been visiting Filey for more than 70 years came together once again for their annual holiday in the sun.
One of the eldest, retired funeral director Basil Walsh, said: "My father brought me here before the war. I remember the Pierrot troupe, and the sand competitions we used to have on the beach. They gave you a square and you had to sculpt or draw something.
"One year the Princess Royal came, when her family had the White house, which Billy Butlin bought. She decided she'd bring her children to enter the competition, so there was a special area for the royal children!"
Mr Walsh, of Bradford, said he had been bringing his family ever since and they had come for the same week every year. "It was safe for the children, it didn't really change - and it's got the best sands anywhere in Britain!"
While the family used to stay at the White House themselves, the extended clan now stay at different accommodation in the town and meet up for drinks at venues like the Foords, the Imperial and The Grapes, where they are always remembered.
Mr Walsh said: "We used to like the fishing trips, when they did them, and this time we met Frankie Cammish who used to take us out 40 years ago!"
Retired tax inspector Edwin Bond started coming to Filey in the early 1950s, when Basil's daughter married Edwin's son. He said this year was the first time they had brought great-grandchildren with them.
His wife Teresa, a former teacher, said: "All our grandchildren have got their exam results while we've been here.
"We want it to carry on as long as possible - we hope they'll wheel us onto the sands!"
Clare Halliday, whose nine-month-old daughter Matilda is the youngest of the 25-strong group, said she had fond memories of going to Corrigan's amusements and playing on the rides. "Afterwards we always had waffles and donuts," she said.
