Adding some drama to children's lives
NEW drama classes are due to start at Scarborough's YMCA Leisure Centre tomorrow.
YMCA School of Drama is for students aged seven to 16 with a focus on acting for stage, musical theatre, script and improvisation work, character building and technical theatre.
The summer term will mainly feature basic drama skills and team-building activities, leading to a small end-of-term production featuring all students.
Rebecca Simpson, the new teacher, said: "Drama is such a vital tool in confidence boosting, team-building and developing vocabulary.
"I am looking forward to becoming part of the team here at the YMCA, the atmosphere is extremely positive and there is a strong focus on the creative arts."
Kerry Nicholson, YMCA theatre productions director, said: "We are looking forward to Rebecca working with the team. Rebecca's enthusiasm and positive attitude towards the young people of Scarborough is encouraging what the YMCA is all about.
"I am sure our existing and new members will thoroughly enjoy our new YMCA School of Drama."
Anyone interested in joining should contact the YMCA reception in St Thomas Street.
