Why does council need iPads?

SO the councillors want iPads to save us money!! At £400+ each, how many do we need?

How much is it going to save? What can an iPad do that laptop computers, mobile phones etc can’t do (which the council already have).

You can email pictures, documents, load pictures from the internet, cameras, mobiles, print, create documents, store documents, carry them from place to place on any laptop.

So can anyone on the council give a 100% valid reason for the iPads?

I can see nothing wrong in councillors having iPads, however the usage of these MUST be monitored. Any personnel usage must be recorded and this private usage should then be subject to Income Tax. A company car with private usage is taxable, there is nothing different in Cars or iPads. Any Private use must also be logged and the site visited be available to members of the public to see whether their councillor is giving value for money. If the issuing and usage of iPads reduces the need for councillors to attend mettings, this will reduce the expenses required and the cost of the iPad wil be covered. Previously councillors had laptops, however the private usage was not monitored, and neither was the amount of paper ink. As we are now seeing council tax increase we must see value for money from our elected councillors. Any mis use of the iPads must result in a full investigation and the cost of this must be met by said councillor and the removal of that particuliar councillo.r
