Tots brush up on their teeth cleaning skills

YOUNGSTERS at a Scarborough nursery are gaining healthy white teeth after taking part in a national campaign to "stop the rot".

Buckets and Spades Nursery in Victoria Road is encouraging children to brush their teeth after they eat.

Staff have introduced a healthy menu at lunchtimes which helps give the children their five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

The children are also having healthy snacks during the day.

Nursery manager Carly Flinton said: “This has been really beneficial for the children and they are really enjoying it.

“It is nice to see them cleaning their teeth regularly and hopefully they will carry on doing it at home and when they start school.”

More than 60 children at the nursery are taking part in the Stop the Rot campaign and the staff are now hoping to include some of the younger children.

Miss Flinton added: “It has been extremely successful so we are wanting to get more children involved. We are pleased that other nurseries in the area are also taking part.”
