Pinewod Holiday Park

A SCARBOROUGH holiday park is to appear on television as a result of its work with a national childrens charity.

Pinewood Holiday Park, in Racecourse Road, is featured on tonight’s episode of the My Life series on CBBC.

The episode, entitled My Life Without Hair, follows two children who suffer from alopecia.

They meet at BeBold Summer Camp, which for the past two years has been held at Pinewood Holiday Park.

Last year a film company spent 3 days at the site following the children.

Holiday park owners Dave and Kerry Woodhead said: “Over the past two years we have been lucky enough to meet some inspirational children.

“This weekend offers a chance for families to share their experiences with coping with this condition, and give each other support during what can be difficult times. It has helped raise awareness of Alopecia and helps children with self-esteem.”

“We are extremely happy to support a number of worthy charities throughout the year, including BeBold, and honoured to meet some amazing people.”

BeBold is a national charity which helps support children and their families with alopecia.

During the My Life programme, film crews follow 13-year-old Kim, and Dan, aged 8, who have never met but both have alopecia.

They both find it difficult; Dan doesn’t like the names he gets called, and Kim is so worried people will stare at her that she’s stopped going out – even with her wig on.

They meet at the special BeBold Summer Camp and the My Life Without Hair episode follows their journey.

The programme, which is narrated by Matt Lucas, reveals that as Dan makes new friends at the camp, he discovers that he’s happy being bald and faces the prospect of going back to school in a new class with renewed confidence.

Kim is so used to hiding away that it’s hard for her to join in. But when she meets beautiful twelve-year-old Gemma she realises that life really can be okay without hair.

The programme will be on television tonight at 4.30pm on BBC 1.
