PEOPLE in Scarborough are being urged to take advantage of free health checks until next month.

The tests, which check cholesterol and blood sugar levels, are being offered by staff at the pharmacy at Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Sue Armstrong, a dispensing assistant, said it was something they offered on a regular basis.

She said: “It is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to be aware of what you are eating.”

The health checks involve taking a small blood sample, via a pin prick, which checked on a monitor.

Customers are given information leaflets and a printout of the readings.

Sue said: “We would advise the person to maybe look at what they are eating but if they get a high reading we would advise a follow up appointment to see if there is any difference.”

She added that blood sugar could be high because the person had recently eaten.

The free health checks are being offered in-store until Tuesday, February 14, and appointments are needed to be arranged in advance.

To book an appointment, or to find out further information, people are advised to contact the pharmacy on (01723) 507618.
