Site named best in county for star gazing
SCARBOROUGH star gazers are being advised to head to Sutton Bank as the area is named as an official Dark Sky Discovery Site.
The bank, which lies in the North York Moors National Park, is one of only two discovery sites in Yorkshire, and was chosen as a result of low light pollution levels, clear horizons and good public access.
The Dark Sky Discovery Initiative has also given Sutton Bank a Milky Way class status because the galaxy is often visible to the naked eye from the site.
The National Park Authority teams up with experts from York Astronomical Society to hold stargazing events at Sutton Bank National Park Centre. The next planned event is November 13, 2012.
