TWO Scarborough schools are set for a new educational dawn after announcing a huge merger.
Scarborough College and Bramcote School, both in Filey Road, will come together in September to provide one independent learning base for the town.
Bosses have said the new school will continue to offer day and boarding education, with the focus on development for youngsters aged between three-years-old and 11-years-old.
The senior school will remain largely unchanged under the plans.
Isobel Nixon, headteacher at Scarborough College, said: “It is very exciting to be a part of this new development.

“The strengths of Scarborough College and Bramcote School will come together to form a very fine school based on an ethos of inspiration and endeavour.”
Dan Davey, who will become the headteacher of the new Bramcote Junior School, added: “The emphasis on high academic standards, broad extra curricular provision and outdoor challenge will continue along with a traditional approach to behaviour, good manners and service to others.”
The two schools have provided independent education in Scarborough for more than 100 years, with Bramcote School being built in 1893 and Scarborough College just three years later.
The move has been welcomed by governors who have acclaimed the partnership as a boost for the future of education in Scarborough.
John Renshaw, chairman of the governors at Scarborough College said: “Our goal is to offer the very best education to all our pupils.
“Our commitment to maintain the quality of education and life experience we offer has resulted in a merger of our two schools.
“We are looking forward with confidence to a bright future with a new and bigger school.”
Alistair Needler, a governor of Bramcote School, added: “These changes will clearly provide challenges for those of us from both schools.
“However, we all feel that the merger offers the best option for the future of both schools and indeed for the children of Scarborough.”

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 02:50 PMre asdfgh comment: the old headmaster leaving wasn't a bad thing for Bramcote, he was the reason that they were in financial trouble!!!!! it is the excellent work done by the new man and new governors over the last 3 years that mean Bramcote is in a position to continue as a force in Scarborough and national education, if it had been left to the old man (Lewin I think) the school would have gone bust 3 years ago!!!

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 02:25 PMDan Davy will have to do a lot to get the same reputation with the parentsstaff as current head Andrew Snow has. He will be sorely missed, but this merger seems sensible, and only really possible because of the great work Mr Snow has done as head of Bra,cote in tough times. Goodbye Mr Snow and good luck!!!

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 06:19 PMThought this idea had been quashed last year. Bramcote has been struggling, Staff cuts, drop in pupil numbers, old headmaster left. Rumor has it that Good old Pindar put out the rally call to his mates and raised enough to secure the future of Bramcote for 2 years. The 2 years his child had left there.
I read the news today, oh boy
