Apprentice scheme ‘a boost to students’
A SCARBOROUGH college has heaped praise on a national scheme to boost apprenticeships in the town.
Yorkshire Coast College has revealed Apprenticeship Week has received huge praise from employers in Scarborough, who are keen to help local youngsters.
Shona’s Hair Salon, Castle Road, has taken on ten apprentices during previous years, including 16-year-old Chloe Barnett who recently won a first place in the college’s annual Hair and Beauty Competition
Owner Shona said: “As an employer, taking on an unskilled person and being willing to train them is a positive experience.
“It gives you a lot of satisfaction to see them progress in their chosen field.
“Choosing the right person to suit your work place, clientele and team will be a successful experience for all.
“It’s fantastic to be able to pass on your knowledge and experience to an Apprentice.
“You are helping and nurturing them to grow as a person, and become a valuable member of the team.”
Sarah Jane Hair, in Victoria Road, has employed two apprentices from Yorkshire Coast College.
Owner Sarah Jane added: “Working closely with the college allows you to match the apprentice to your salon and clients needs.
“Good references are essential in helping you find the right candidate.”
