A FUNDRAISING campaign to send an 11-year-old girl to America for medical treatment is gathering support.

More than £7,000 has already been raised towards a £60,000 total for India Robertson, of Ebberston, who has cerebral palsy.

It is hoped that she will soon be on her way to St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri for selective dorsal rhizotomy treatment.

This involves surgery on the spinal cord which would help relieve spasms in her legs, hopefully enabling her to walk more easily.

India uses a wheelchair to get around, though she can manage at home with a walking frame.

Fundraising events so far have included a pub treasure hunt in Falsgrave, which raised around £180.

India’s mum, Jennie Robertson, explained that 18 participants made their way from pub to pub looking for clues, starting at the Crown Tavern and finishing at the Lord Rosebery.

Mrs Robertson said: “It was really nice, but it could have been a bit warmer! The pubs on Falsgrave have been great. They’ve put posters up and have got collection buckets out.

“Everyone has been very supportive.”

She added that on Friday February 24, the Tap and Spile will be holding a music event in aid of India’s fund.

This Saturday the Crown Tavern is holding a children’s party with Magic Mike and India will be doing a sponsored swim at the indoor pool in Pickering.

And on Sunday there will be a raffle at the Crown Tavern to add to the total.

The £7,000 raised so far has been through various events such as coffee mornings, cake sales, jam making, along with a number of donations.

Mrs Robertson said: “We are so grateful for everyone’s support and hope it will continue.”

India is on the hospital’s list for July.
