KFC in Aberdeen Walk before it closed

KFC in Aberdeen Walk before it closed

FRIED chicken fanatics in Scarborough could be in for some finger lickin’ good news thanks to an internet campaign by residents.

More than 5,000 fans of fast food chain KFC have signed up to a page on social networking website Facebook, calling for a restaurant to open in Scarborough.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed by bigwigs at the American firm, which has its headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the chain is aware of the Facebook group and that plans were afoot to open a KFC in Scarborough.

The KFC spokesperson said: “We’re always looking for new locations, and due to popular demand from local residents, particularly on Facebook, we’d love to open a restaurant in Scarborough.

“It’s early days and we’re still looking for a suitable site, but we hope to have some good news for our fans soon.”

It was also confirmed that around 40 new jobs would be created if plans to open a restaurant in Scarborough come to fruition.

It is understood that KFC is looking at opening a drive-through outlet in Seamer Road as well as a branch somewhere in the town centre.

The news will delight members of the Facebook campaign, who will hope their long wait could soon be over.

On the page’s wall, John Paton wrote: “Why do they keep putting adverts for KFC up on bus shelters and outside shops in Scarborough? Talk about teasing folk...”

Another Scarborough KFC fan, Wendy Grisdale, said: “Please open one in Scarborough. I’m having withdrawals!”

Rachel Cooke said: “I’ve been waiting 16 years to have a KFC here. Please, please, please!”

There was a small branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough, several years ago after it took over a Wimpy outlet.

However, it was soon taken over by another fried chicken outlet and KFC has not been seen in Scarborough since.

Reply to No 8 SUBWAY should be renamed (INFERIORWAY). If you eat this Crap you will eat anything as you have no taste buds. The only benificeries from KFC will be KFC through their overpriced rubbishy food and SBC for the business rates it will receive.

Lazy people , freshly prepared and cooked food is CHEAPER than anything from a Rubbish Take Away. Learn to read a recipe and cook. The tastes are worlds apart. Fresh food has never been as cheap as it is today. ChinesIndianKebabsPizza are better is they are prepared and cooked fresh at home. What is wrong with todays generation? Will KFC be contributing to the ecconomy YES wil they be offering FULL TIME jobs that realiase NI & Income tax I think not. So more Tax Credits required. And the winner is KFC

KFCs website says: 'We are ranked as a Britain’s Top Employer ...evidence of our commitment to everyone who works for us.' Scarborough needs good employers, and committment, so welcome them into the dynamic environment that IS Scarborough!

local?

A shop that sold food with nutrients in it would create new jobs and obtain supplies from local producers. Imagine that; food with nutrients that wasn't beige...and staff who didn't smell of lard...

There was a KFC on Aberdeen Walk 30 odd years ago. After a night on the booze in Tiffs I still preferred the Chinese on the corner of Northway and Victoria Road. I won't be eating there but as there are still a few people who are prepared to do anything to support their Families an occupied shop is better than an empty one.

Same old arguments: we don't want this to happen because it's cheap and tacky and will drag the town down; and we don't want it because it will affect existing small firms' business. If the town needs anything, it needs jobs and it needs competition.

We don't have many places like tis do we? Pizza, kebab, fried chicken outlets, all selling the usual muck!! And, as others have also pointed out, KFC's record on animal welfare is abysmal, to say the least. Why is it that Scarborough, time and time again, just gets s***ty stuff? And as for providing jobs, well, wouldn't a more classy outlet also provide jobs?? And, how many of the KFC fans would be up in arms if they suddenly started selling Kentucky Fried Veal??

#26, Please don't get so defensive, the government have recently been in touch with a number of large national companies and asked them to stop with all the part time jobs as it costs the government too much in taxes to support them and their families, I haven't made this up just to be miserable, also as GIGI points out, KFC are total pants, we are having fajita's tonight with very reasonably priced, reasonably local free range chicken, it will be delicious healthy and cheap. Its a shame you can't wait for a kfc, as my 2007 YEP pasting shows, you may have to wait a long time.

#25 So where are they all? Who can afford to occupy prime locations and employ that number of people? Anyway, i'm going to leave this now, there are way too many backward thinking people in this pathetic little town. I feel that my original point has been lost through argument - KFC is extremely tasty and I can't wait. So there.

Someone actually ASKED for KFC to come here?! Oh for goodness sake... totally unsound on every level, from a nutritional point of view, animal welfare point of view, and even from an environmental point of view, more greasy cardboard buckets floating about. It takes about 10 minutes to grill or stirfry some chicken at home, and t hrow together a salad, and there are healthier chicken kebab places in town... why encourage unscrupulous companies to stamp on the smaller cafe and take-away owners here?
