Sale fever at Boyes store

BOYES store in Scarborough threw open its doors to a crowd of eager bargain hunters as its February sale got under way yesterday.
The first customer through the doors was Ed Nelsey, of Newby, who had come to buy a chair especially for his wife, Shirley.
Mr Nelsey said: “My wife came down the other day and said this was the first chair she’d found that made her feel comfortable.
“I’m really pleased I’ve got it. I’ve saved £100 on the price - every little helps!”
The item was one of the store’s special “early bird” deals on offer.
Store manager Chris Golder said Boyes had had a good Christmas and were looking forward to a successful sale event this month.
He said: “We have two sales a year, in February and September, and we get deliveries every week, with special purchases on offer.
“We don’t get the queues we used to on a morning, but because the sale is on for a month I think people tend to spread it out a bit.”
With colder weather forecast - with the possibility of snow - Mr Golder was expecting items such as sledges and woolly hats to be flying off the shelves.
He said: “We have sledges in every year and they normally sell out. But we’ve not had the snow yet!”

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 09:13 PMIt would be interesting if any customers who were there could write in and say just how many were in the crowd that is reported to have been there when the doors opened for the sale. Was it 200? 1000? More? or was the crowd just a couple of dozen or so with a rather sensational headline to give it a boost?
