Residents urged to be vigilant over financial scam
SCARBOROUGH residents are being warned to be on their guard against a scam company claiming to represent the Ministry of Justice.
The scam involves homeowners being cold called by representatives from an Indian call centre who claim to be compiling a list of personal credit details for government records.
The Evening News was contacted by one worried resident who said the company had called her asking for details about her credit cards and how much she owed on them.
The woman, who didn't want to be named, said: "They said they were working on behalf of the government and that despite fears from people everything was well above aboard with it.
"They asked me if I had any credit cards and how much I owed on them and I told them that was private and didn't reveal anything.
"They then said to me that their supervisor would contact me the next day if I gave my details, however, I didn't and I urge everyone else to be extremely vigilant if they are called by the same people."
