People make it perfect for award
A SCARBOROUGH businessman is heading to Malaysia after winning a national award for his successful running of Staxton garage.
Sean Kelly, director of Skelly Forecourts which has operated Shell Staxton for 11 years, scooped the Shell Gold Retailer accolade at the Shell PMTDR (People Make The Difference Real) Conference.
The award recognises many aspects of how the business is run, including performance in terms of profitability and turnover, managing health and safety, site and shop standards, and customer service.
Mr Kelly, who also operates three Shell sites in Hull, said: "Throughout 2009 we excelled and we have now been recognised for the hard work and dedication the team have delivered.
"This is great news for Scarborough as we are the gateway in and out of the town.
"The first and last impressions my team gave for visitors to the town was exceptional.
"Winning this award is a great example of how a local business has prospered and shone nationally, and we will now hopefully be recognised internationally which is a welcome boost for the town."
After winning the industry accolade Mr Kelly will now proudly represent the UK in the global awards to be held in Kuala Lumpa, Malaysia in May.
