MP grilled by primary school kids

PUPILS at a Scarborough school have been given the chance to grill their MP at a 'Question Time' session.

Children in years four, five and six at Wheatcroft School put Robert Goodwill through his paces after he paid them a flying visit.

It follows a political project at the school, in which children learned about the major political parties and their policies during the recent general election campaign.

Headteacher Jenny Hartley said: "Robert looked around the school for half an hour, then spent another 30 minutes answering questions in the school hall.

"We managed to get an invitation to him, and were delighted when he accepted. He has a good understanding of school issues so it was a chance for the staff to ask him questions as well."

One question asked of Mr Goodwill came from a year five boy who asked: "Will there still be university places for me?"

Miss Hartley added: "The children have a very good understanding that things are not good at the moment. They also care about our town and asked plenty of questions about Scarborough.

"It was a really successful visit and Robert did a very good job answering the questions in a way that was easy for children to understand - they all really enjoyed themselves."

pause for thought ... Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill is careful not to make a gaffe under interrogation from a year six pupil at Wheatcroft School.
