IT firm on the move
BUSINESS is booming at a Scarborough IT firm as it moves to new premises to allow for expansion.
Practical Network Solutions has recently relocated to the new Scarborough Business Park, becoming only the third occupant of Manor Court.
The company, which is approaching its ten year anniversary. moved from Cayley Court after bosses decided bigger officers were needed to allow for future expansion.
Lisa Remmer, finance director at Practical Network Solutions, said: "We felt we needed bigger premises as we found ourselves expanding. We needed to look at somewhere we could stay for the longer term, somewhere with room for growth and expansion.
"Although we serve customers right across the country from Scotland to London we wanted to remain in Scarborough as that is where we are from and that is where the business started. With the technology we have got we are able to our business from anywhere.
"The new business park is perfect for us. There is plenty of space, and our offices really fit in with our image as a modern IT company.
"We are the first small independent business to move to this part of the park, and we just felt now was the right time."
Practical Network Solutions was founded by Mrs Remmer and her husband Neil in 2001, and started out in a small unit at the Evron Centre in Filey.
The company, which offers IT support and installation, now employs seven people and is approaching the 1 million turnover mark.
It has customers right across the country from two man traders to large corporate organsiations, and schools and colleges with computer networks spanning 40,000 people.
Technical director David Philps said: "While most businesses have been hit in one way or another the recession has not really affected us.
"Computers are such a big part of business and industry now that whether a business is suffering or not it still needs to have the use of a computer and access to the internet.
"We have really seen business pick up over the last few years, which has been boosted by the advances in computer technology and how fast its has all taken off.
"We are lucky too that much of our business comes from customer referrals, which is a great achievement considering our customers span the country. We also have a great sales team to help us drum up business.
"So far we have had 100 per cent customer retention from day one. We are hoping to continue that here at the new business park.
"We are very proud to bring customers back to our offices here, as well as our partners at Microsoft and Cisco."
The company is the third to occupy a unit at the new Manor Park development at Scarborough Business Park, joining Swedish bank Handelsbanken and HSBC's commercial branch.
Other businesses located on land at the new park include Scarborough haulage firm TEF Transport, engineering compnay the Firth Firmac Group, and joiners Andy Whitelaw Joinery.
