Home from home
A COUPLE who saw their property demolished at Knipe Point have been helped into a new home by a Scarborough businessman.
Philip Markham, who runs architectural design company Markham-inc, in Throxenby Lane, helped John and Mary Whittaker to transform a dilapidated granary in Filey into their new home.
Mr and Mrs Whittaker's home was one of three demolished at Knipe Point after a series of landslips at the site from April 2008.
Mr Markham helped the couple to gain planning permission for their project and drew up plans for their new home.
He said: "Mr and Mrs Whittaker clearly have had a stressful and uncertain few years and to gain this approval has been a culmination of many hours negotiating with the planning department and other interested parties, including Network Rail.
"I am very pleased to have been able to assist Mr and Mrs Whittaker in realising their dreams of a new home.
''I cannot begin to comprehend just how stressful it must have been to watch their home disappear."
Markham-inc architectural design was launched by Philip Markham in Scarborough in April 2009.
Mr Markham said as he approached his first anniversary he was looking forward to a "bright and enterprising future, in what for many are very difficult times".
