Firm demonstrates how to stay lean
A SCARBOROUGH firm has been selected by a national manufacturing body to host a visit demonstrating the best practice in production.
Stationery and packaging producer Duraweld, based in Salter Road, has been singled out by the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) after being asked to host a visit showcasing best practice in lean manufacturing and successful environmental management.
MAS, which is a Government body designed to help manufacturers, set up the visit as part of its ''Inside Industry'' initiative.
The visit will take place on February 25 at Duraweld's factory and will see delegates from around the region get a first hand example of how lean manufacturing works in practice.
It will also focus on how Duraweld has been able to synchronise lean manufacturing with its 20–step environmental programme, which has seen significant reductions in waste and energy consumption year on year.
Duraweld's production manager Jamie Swan, who will be hosting the tour, said: "The main benefit of running our lean manufacturing and environmental management programmes side-byside is that we have been able to stay competitive and innovative in what is a traditional, mature
industry.
"We are delighted that the MAS has chosen Duraweld to show other companies how it can work well when it is done with commitment and care.
''I hope we can provide some really useful tips to help inspire people to improve their manufacturing and environmentally processes in the future"
