Eco-friendly transport hits the road
A SCARBOROUGH man is driving forward his business plan as he prepares to open his own smart car dealership.
Martin Watson now has an opening date for his business smartcom, which is based in Castle Road and specialises in low energy use transportation.
Mr Watson, who previously owned Caffeine Rush takeaway coffee in Wesborough, said: "I have had my own businesses in the past, but my real love is smart cars, I am passionate about them and have a lot of knowledge about them.
"I tried setting up a dealership on-line but I found people like a traditional forecourt where they can see what they are buying so that is what I have done.
"It is a growing industry as people are now very conscious about energy saving, particularly when it comes to transport.
"Things have gone really well so far in setting up smartcom. The stock is all in and the forecourt is ready for business. I am really looking forward to trading now."
Mr Watson, whose partner has run Yorkshire Rider Training since 1992, says smartcom, which is due to open on May 1, will also specialise in electrically assisted power cycles, tricycles and scooters, as well as eco-friendly motorcycles and mopeds.
Mr Watson said: "I am really eager to promote the electric cycles with business in Scarborough. I want to work with employers to help them set up cycle to work schemes using the bikes."
