Carers awarded disability symbol
A DISABILITY symbol has been awarded to a Scarborough care provider in recognition of its good employment practices.
Jobcentre Plus in North Yorkshire awarded the Disability Symbol to
Independent Home Living based in Ramshill Road.
Clare Suddaby, senior operations manager for Jobcentre Plus North East
Yorkshire & the Humber District, presented the award to company directors Ann Wyatt and Alison Thompson.
The Disability Symbol is given to employers who pledge to meet five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of people with disabilities.
Ms Suddaby said: "Jobcentre Plus is thrilled to be presenting the Disability Symbol to Independent Home Living.
"By using the symbol it makes it clear that you welcome applications from people with disabilities and are positive about their abilities. It also shows existing employees that you value their contribution and will treat them fairly should they become disabled."
"It is also worth bearing in mind that by employing disabled people you will be better placed to recognise, develop and deliver goods and services for your disabled customers, as there are over 8,500 disabled people living in the Scarborough area."
