A MAN was robbed and threatened by armed youths in broad daylight yesterday in a quiet residential street.
The man in his 50s was walking down Stepney Grove, towards Stepney Drive, at 5.25pm when two men, believed to be in their late teens to early 20s, threatened him with a handgun.

The thieves stole his black leather briefcase, wallet and wrist watch before running down Stepney Drive.

Police were called immediately and part of the street was cordoned off while officers searched for evidence.

Sgt Lee Jones from North Yorkshire Police said: "The local man was uninjured but obviously very distressed.

"The men were armed and the firearm they threatened with is believed to be a black handgun.

"The men ran off down Stepney Drive and it is believed they then went off in the direction of Scalby Road."

One of the robbers is 6ft tall, slim with broad shoulders, dark hair and a thin face.

He was wearing a hoodie and blue tracksuit bottoms with white vertical stripes down the side, which became horizontal stripes three-quarters of the way down.

The second is around 5ft 9in tall and was wearing a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.

Sgt Jones added: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Stepney Grove or Stepney Drive at around 5.25pm yesterday. Anyone with any information, should contact North Yorkshire Police on 08456060247 and speak to Scarborough CID."

These crimes in broad daylight are on the increase. I would never imagine that there would be so many attacks during the day, as we read about now.

The daytime was the one time the elderly and other residents used to feel safe, whilst out walking.

I feel so sorry that this gentleman has suffered this traumatic attack and we want to send him our very best wishes fo a speedy recovery.

Well Well the real world has come to scarborough. Its very very sad. The poor guy must have been frightened out of his mind, what to do is the question. I have my own views on this but they cant be published unfortunately. The PC crew would eat me alive.

Well I am just wondering why the policeman is standing around doing absolutely nothing, what is the point? The lads who did this are not likely to wander back to the same spot are they? How come we always get to see coppers loitering around at crime scenes long after the event, does this serve any purpose I wonder? Other than boost their ovetime of course. Why not get in your car (conveniently parked nearby I see) and get out there and catch them?

As a resident of Stepney Grove, I would certainly dispute this journalist's definition of a "quiet residential street"; at certain times of the day, ours is one of the busiest little rat-runs in the whole of Scarborough. Secondly, as Stepney Grove is a popular short-cut for youngsters walking to and from the Sixth Form College and Graham School, I would hope that the Police are treating this incident with the gravity it deserves.

Bring back public execution!!! This type of person has no place in society! The minute they pulled out the gun they forfitted all their own human rights. Yes we can jail them at a huge cost per year and when they come out the will be exactly the same if not worse. I could build a gallows, and would pay for it myself as long as I had the job of executioner, and I wouldnt want paying for it either. It would me my contribution to a better society. There are bad people in britain and we need to stop with all the " They have their rights " They dont! Does the person who had a gun pointed at them have rights? yes the right to walk down the street in safty as we all should. These little idiots have NO right in society!!

As long as SBC continue to give public funds for the accomadation of these usually out of work, drunken, drug fuelled yobs, the problems in Scarborough will only get worse.

These yobs living mainly in houses of multiple occupation are parasites on society, if you want the answer as to how to get rid of them, it's easy, tell SBC to stop paying the landlords of these Fagian dens of iniquity ratepayers money to accomadadate this rif-raf.

With no rent allowaces they will soon be off to pastures new.
