EVENING News readers can watch a live view of the South Bay through our new webcam.
CastleCam, which is now up and running on our website, is an ideal way to check out the sea and the weather during the day.

The webcam is hosted and provided by John Allsopp, a freelance web developer and internet marketer.

Mr Allsopp, 46, of St Mary’s Walk, Scarborough, set the webcam up in his home more than a year ago.

He said: “My girlfriend was spending time away and was homesick for Scarborough and I put it up so you could look out on the view we have got.

“Gradually more and more people have found it. I get fan mail for it in a sense. One person who contacted me was saying they love the view and it reminds them of their many visits to Scarborough.

“I have had interest in using webcams as CCTV for protecting businesses and being able to see what’s going on in the business when you’re not there.”

Mr Allsopp, who builds and designs websites for local businesses and develops internet marketing strategies for them, is also a drummer in local bands Manfat Voodoo and The DTs.

This year he is developing a photo directory of local businesses, www.neartou.com.

Coming soon we will also have a harbour and mariner webcam in conjunction with the Scarborough South Bay Traders Association.
